How is GPA calculated?

What is the difference between weighted and unweighted GPA?
Unweighted GPA is on a 4.0 scale regardless of course difficulty. Weighted GPA accounts for the difficulty of courses (Advanced Placement or Honors) and is typically on a 5.0 scale.
